A Simple Jewish Meal

Now that it is fall cooking is more of a production. Meals need to be hot to warm your family up after a long day in the cold. However, because you spend you day working and taking care of your family you may not always be in the mood to cook a large hot meal. Fortunately, a simple Jewish meal prepared with love can be just as satisfying as a gourmet meal that took hours to prepare.

The Main Course

Beef Stew

When planning a simple meal you will want to start with the main course. Since you want to simplify the cooking process you will want to create a single dish that has all the food groups in its ingredients. Stews and casseroles are two dishes that help you to create well rounded meals in a single pot or dish.

Jewish cuisine is filled with traditional Jewish recipes for great casseroles, especially noodle casseroles. Noodle casseroles are easy to prepare, as they are what I like to call a dump and cook recipe. All you do is dump the ingredients into a casserole and pop it in the oven to cook. A basic noodle casserole, that is intended to be served as a main dish, will contain noodles, vegetables, a dairy base and some form of meat. For example, if you want to make a tuna noodle casserole you will need noodles, a can of tuna, cheese, milk, a bag of mixed vegetables and a basic rue made from butter and flour.

Another easy to make one pot meal is a stew. Stews work well for working Jewish parents as they can be started in a crock pot in the morning and left to cook safely in the crockpot through the day, and by the time that you get home form work/school, the stew is ready. To prepare a stew you will need brother (chicken, vegetable or beef), meat and vegetables. You will want to skin and cube your vegetables in large enough pieces so that they survive the long cooking time. If you have young children, you can cut down the vegetables when they are served to make them easier for them to eat.

Dessert

For an easy dessert there are several options that you can go with. You can prepare a cake mix and top it with berries or warmed fruit preserves, or you can simply serve a baked apple. Baked apples are a great and inexpensive dessert to make. All you have to do is to core your favorite type of apple, place it in a cake pan filled with about a half inch of water, sprinkle the apples with a tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees until soft. When you serve the apply sprinkle with a little more sugar and cinnamon.

A Simple Stroganoff Recipe For the Slow Cooker

Are you tired of the same old meals day in and day out? Don't feel like having pizza or fast food again? Well here is a great recipe that you and your family will love, and the best part is you can slow cook it and not really spend a whole lot of time preparing it. Slow cooker beef stroganoff is an excellent dish that can be made very easily with very little effort on your part.

All you need to make this dish is a pound of beef that is cubed for stew meat, a 10 oz can of condensed golden mushroom soup, half of an onion chopped into small pieces, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, a quarter cup of water, and four ounces of cream cheese. That's all you need to make this wonderful dish, nothing more, nothing less.

Beef Stew

When you've got all the ingredients prepared and ready to be used, you can proceed to the next step which is combining the mean, soup, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and the water in your slow cooker. The slow cooking process is important because it helps lock in the flavor and does not overcook the meat that is being used in the recipe. You could cook the meat in the oven, but that would require that you be more accurate with how long it is being cooked. Cooking it too long could result in the meat being too dry. You'll want to slow cook this on low heat for 8 hours. If you don't have that much time, you can save a few hours by cooking it on high for 5 hours. When the time has expired, check the meat to make sure it is moist and tender, which I guarantee it will be. When it is finished, the final step will be to stir in the cream cheese.

In the end you'll have a wonderful dish that you can serve over egg noodles or rice, whichever you and your family prefers. Your family will be ultimately impressed with this dish and you'll always be able to use it when you need a great meal on short notice or if you don't have a lot of time to devote to cooking for your family.

One of the best things about slow cooker recipes is that so many of them are really simple. There are literally hundreds of one dish dinners you can make in a crockpot. If it is important to you to feel your family healthy, nutritious and varied meals, the crockpot could well turn out to be your best friend.

This handy piece of kitchen equipment is economical to buy, comes in many different styles and sizes and does not overheat your kitchen the way an oven can.

If you have a busy day ahead of you, making a one dish dinner probably sounds very appealing. All you need to serve with such meals is some salad and perhaps a few breadsticks. One dish dinners can be as plain or as complex as you like.

Perhaps a meat and vegetable stew sounds like a nice idea or a chili con carne. You can make quite a few different international slow cooker recipes too, if your family is adventurous and enjoys tasting new cuisines.

Tips for Making One Dish Dinners

With simple slow cooker recipes for one dish dinners, you can usually alter them to suit the tastes of yourself and your family. You might want to alter the types of meats, seasonings or vegetables, spice the meal up or leave the spice out.

It is important to follow the slow cooker recipes carefully as regards layering. This is because dense ingredients like carrots cook far more slowly than fish or meat. The densest ingredients or those that take the longest to cook usually need to go on the bottom of the crockpot and then the other ingredients will go on top.

If you do not follow these instructions, your meat might be mushy and the vegetables might come out half raw, which is really not the way to win your family's favor at dinnertime when they are all hungry!

Examples of One Dish Meals for the Slow Cooker

Beef stew with dumplings is a wonderful recipes for the slow cooker or you could spoil your family with a hearty pot roast. If you want to use chicken, dishes such as chicken curry or chicken Alfredo are popular. Turkey and bean cassoulet is great too. Pork comes out well and you might fancy pork chops with apple, stuffed pork roast or a thick and chunky carrot and pork sausage stew.

Seafood and fish are other crockpot options. A mixed fish stew or seafood chowder could be a good idea if you want something aromatic and refreshing rather than too heavy. You can make spaghetti sauce in a slow cooker as well, which means you would need to cook the spaghetti on the stove. The good thing about making sauces in a slow cooker is the way the flavors combine so well when they heat up so gently. Obviously this is not a one dish dinner, unless you have some leftover cooked spaghetti.

One dish dinners in the crockpot really do free up your time for other things. Once you find a good slow cooker recipe, combine the ingredients in the crockpot and flip the switch that is all you need to do.

Whether you are cooking for a busy family, looking for new meal inspiration or you just want to learn some new slow cooker recipes, you will find this cooking method to be great. Not only are crockpots easy to use but you can make literally hundreds of delicious meals in there which your family will enjoy very much.
