I Love Kosher Wine - A Galilee, Israel Cabernet Sauvignon

The Upper Galilee region in northern Israel is home to some of the country's highest mountains. They are over a kilometer (more than five-eighths of a mile high). While such mountains can't begin to compete with Mount Everest, they can produce excellent wine and were doing so even two thousand years ago. And who ever associated wine with Mount Everest, anyway? This particular producer is a joint venture between an Israeli kibbutz (Yiron) and a private company, the Golan Heights Winery. The vineyards are hot in the daytime, and cool at night. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the soil is poor. These are both important considerations for producing fine wine. By the way, some of these lovely vineyards are snowy in the winter. The winery has set up a distinctive visitor's center.

Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten computer and Internet books, but really prefers fine Italian or other wine, with good food and company. He loves teaching computer classes at an Ontario French-language community college. His global wine website www.theworldwidewine.com features a weekly review of $10 wines and new sections writing about and tasting organic and kosher wines. His Italian travel website is www.travelitalytravel.com .
